Working in acrylic, oil, pastel and watercolour, Desmond Armour has been based in Dorset for thirty years. His paintings have been bought by collectors from Australia and the USA as well as sold on the internet.
He achieved a scholarship to the Ealing School of Art in the days when 'Bunny' Lightfoot was the Principal. In the 80s, in his 'RA period', Des had paintings hung at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition on three occasions.
Very much not a 'single theme' painter, his subjects include local landscapes and French landscapes, portraits from the model and portraits from the mind, therapeutic still lives and subjects of pure fantasy.
Des teaches art for the ArtLinks programme, formerly of Sherborne House, and has had successful One Man Shows at the Guggleton Gallery, The Century Gallery, Henley on Thames, and The Blake Gallery. His exhibition at the Butin Gallery, Dillington House, in which he shared the limelight with Barbara Hepworth, was a gallery sales record. Although he shows at Open Exhibitions, his One Man Shows are rare – painting is more enjoyable than showing.
